Agricultural Equipment Manufacturer Expands Use of Leading Product Configurator Software

OAK BROOK, IL – [November 30, 2009] – Configure One™ www.configureone.com, a leading provider of web-based product configurator and electronic catalog software, today announced that Grain Systems—the global leader in grain storage, conditioning, and material handling equipment—has licensed Configure One’s Concept Enterprise Product Configurator® for an additional two divisions.

Headquartered in Assumption, Illinois, GSI Group is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of agricultural equipment. In four separate business units, GSI specializes in grain conditioning, grain storage, material handling, and equipment for protein production.

In August 2008, GSI successfully implemented Configure One’s Concept Enterprise Product Configurator in its Material Handling Division. As a result of this success, GSI has finalized agreements to implement Concept in two additional divisions— the Storage Division and Conditioning Division. “We have a highly configurable product,” said David Weder, project manager for GSI. “Our engineers were spending far too much time creating bills of material (BOM) for individual sales orders instead of working on product development. During our busy season, 100 percent of the engineers’ time was devoted to creating BOMs for sales orders.”

According to Weder, GSI selected Concept as a result of its web-based architecture and its strong integration with Pro/ENGINEER®, a leading CAD system from PTC®. “No other product we evaluated came close to the capabilities offered by Configure One.”

Although GSI purchased Concept for its product configurator capabilities, the company plans on using additional functionality in the near future. “During the initial evaluation we were just looking for a BOM configurator, but with Concept we got much, much more,” said Weder.  “We are now using Concept to produce quotations, and in the future we want to add sales and production drawings. Currently, there is a delay in getting the sales drawing to the customer. We are having to use outside contractors to produce sales drawings to keep up with demand. Having the ability to create sales drawings in-house will be a huge saving for GSI.”

GSI markets its products exclusively through a worldwide network of independent dealers. “Our dealers are really our customers,” said Weder. “They really like the configurator, and our goal is to make Concept available to our entire dealer network via our web site.”
