Autodesk Configure One Helps Boa Technology Improve Customer Service
Leading designer and manufacturer of closure systems selects Configure One to increase throughput, improve responsiveness and accuracy
OAK BROOK, IL – July 18, 2016 – Autodesk Configure One™, a leading provider of web-based product configurator and CPQ (configure, price, quote) software, today announced that Boa Technology Inc.— a leading designer and manufacturer of closure systems for the sports and medical industries—selected Configure One’s Enterprise Product Configurator® after a comprehensive evaluation.
With over 25 million Boa-powered products worldwide, the award-winning, patented Boa Closure System is reinventing how shoes, medical braces, equipment, and nearly everything else performs. Its proprietary closure system of steel lace, nylon guides and a mechanical reel was designed to address the long list of deficiencies found in traditional closures. In the process, Boa improved upon the performance of every other type of closure system on the market—from laces to buckles, and ratchets to hook and loop systems.
Boa relied on manual systems and the knowledge and experience of key team members to generate quotes. “Boa’s products are highly technical, but contain very few components,” said David Clifton, Document Control Manager. “Individual components can be colored and customized to our customers’ specifications. As a result, the mixing and matching of those colors means an endless number of possible combinations. We recognized that it was impractical to allocate part numbers to every possible combination.”
Boa’s existing manual process for creating quotes was a bottleneck. “Configuring products requires a team of Development Support Specialists (DSS),” said Clifton. “They are working at maximum capacity with little room for expansion. We needed to find a way to streamline the process and respond to our partners faster.”
Boa recognized the need for configuration software and started evaluating several CPQ vendors. “We were looking for a software tool that would allow us to capture all of the ‘tribal knowledge’ as configuration rules. It was essential for us to create and maintain these rules ourselves, all without the need for specialist programming skills. We wanted a tool that was web-based and able to provide a 2D visual representation of the final product,” said Clifton.
After evaluating several different vendors, Boa selected Configure One’s Enterprise Product Configurator. “Configure One was the closest fit for our needs,” said Clifton. “The Configure One team were very knowledgeable and professional. They were able to address all the issues that arose during the evaluation, and the flexibility of the software allowed us to purchase only the functionality we needed.”
According to Clifton, Boa expects to see many business improvements once Configure One is fully implemented. “By capturing the ‘tribal knowledge’ as configuration rules, our DSS group will become more efficient. We expect throughput to increase allowing us to process more quotes with the same number of people. We’re confident that Configure One will enable us to be more responsive to our customers, and subsequently increase sales. By accurately capturing our customers’ requirements and improving communication with our manufacturing partners, Configure One will help reduce mistakes. This will enable us to provide our customers with samples faster, and get the color correct the first time.”
“We are excited to be working with such an innovative company as Boa Technology.” said Aleks La Rosa, Product Specialist Sales Executive for Configure One. “We are looking forward to partnering with Boa to ensure they achieve their goals of streamlining the CPQ process, increase throughput, and improve customer responsiveness.”
