As EpiCenter, a Westfield, Massachusetts-based software development firm, began serving customers across more than a dozen different industries, management saw a way to create efficiencies that would have high-visibility customer impact.
“One common ‘pain point’ is in quoting and producing sales orders for companies who produce multioption customizable products and services,” said Les Tingley, EpiCenter’s director of partnerships.
That’s when EpiCenter started working with Configure One, a leading developer of software solutions in the configure-price-quote space.
“The partnership with Configure One provides EpiCenter with a reliable solution to address that issue, resulting in a better overall solution for our customers,” Tingley said.
The collaboration with Configure One sharpens EpiCenter’s offerings as a software developer serving clients in a dozen categories, from aerospace and defense, to medical devices, to the electronics and high-tech industries, with many more listed on its website.
EpiCenter is actually a full-service, value-added reseller for Epicor, Tingley explained, and follows Epicor’s Signature Methodology along with industry-specific expertise from its extensive background in engineer-to-order and make-to-stock manufacturing and distribution.
“EpiCenter strives to gain a solid understanding of how each company operates,” Tingley said. “The SPR process results in a top-down, bottom-up understanding of how a company operates, and whether their current software configuration supports their business goals.”
The expertise EpiCenter gained from a prior background in manufacturing taught the company that following a strict process was the most disciplined way to meet client needs.
“EpiCenter assesses people and production needs first, and then translates those requirements to the software,” Tingley said.
As Configure One and EpiCenter joined forces, they developed a standard integration between Configure One’s CPQ interface and Epicor 9 and 10 products.
“This integration leverages Configure One APIs to seamlessly synchronize Customer and Item Master records to Configure One, as well as sending Quotes and Sales Orders from Configure One back to Epicor ERP,” Tingley said. “The power and ease of use of the Configure One product, coupled with seamless integration to Epicor ERP, results in great efficiencies and time savings for our customers.”
Now that the Configure One interface is a new tool in EpiCenter’s toolbox, the company has turned to a new project, the launch of EpiBusinessSolutions.
“While ERP is meant to offer an end-to-end solution out of the box, companies often desire more robust solutions for certain aspects of their operations,” Tingley said. “EpiBusinessSolutions has established a core of third-party solutions, such as Configure One, that effectively fill these needs.”
Working with Configure One has enabled EpiCenter to better address the needs of a diverse group of clients, whether they have implemented Epicor software or require help in doing so from EpiCenter’s development team.
“Even companies not yet ready, or just beginning, to search for a new ERP system often have more pressing issues that need to be addressed,” Tingley said. “Having solid offerings, like Configure One, will allow EpiCenter to address those issues, establishing new working relationships.”
